Recognizing members who impact our association, profession, and future

Recognizing Impact

The heart of every association is its members. Each year we recognize outstanding members who have made an impact on our association, the specialty of our profession, and the future of our profession through the work they do with resident orthodontists. Below is a list of all awards, past recipients and information to nominate yourself or a colleague for each award. They are listed alphabetically.

Citizenship Award

The Citizenship Award, established in 1989, recognizes members whose voluntary service activities exemplify dedication to community, democratic standards, and/or spiritual values, thereby creating a favorable public opinion about orthodontists.

Martin Dewey Memorial Award

The Martin Dewey Memorial award is given each year in recognition of the contributions to orthodontic education, research and practice. This award was established in 1853 to honor the member of the first editor of the American Journal of Orthodontics, Dr. Martin Dewey. Dr. Dewey was the teacher of many of the early members of this Society, and he served as a frequent essayist, without compensation, at many of the early meetings of the Society. He was one of the first seven directors of the original American Board of Orthodontics. This award is presented in memory of Dr. Dewey’s early teaching and faithful attendance at the meetings of the Society during its formative years, 1921 to 1933.
